Yesterday after I had gotten the kids from school I had to stop by the store to get a few things. As we were walking into the store a young girl had rolled down her window and said hi to her, with a wave. Brodie waved back then told me that the girl was one of the students in the class she helped with. I believe she still helps them just not as frequently as she used to. I had hurried her inside with the other kids because I am a get in the store and get out type of person. So I told her on our way out, if she was still there, to stop by the car and give her a better hello. She was. She did. She gave her a hug and told her she would see her tomorrow.

As we were walking away the girls’ mother walked up and across her face came a glorious smile. Which in turn made all four of us smile. And we all felt good. Because that is what making a person smile does. And that is what smiling does to you.

And when I let that quote sink into me just a bit more I realized the true meaning. That moment, Brodie hugging that girl, made a difference. Maybe not to that girl but to her mother. And it made a difference in us. For a moment two families were happy and smiling brighter than the sun. If you think about our wide world and all that is in it, it’s actually a magical thing to know that 7 people at the same exact time were just happy. Nothing more. Nothing less. Happy. Smiling.

Things do matter.

So the plan is to give you a prompt and you blog about whatever you want and hopefully that prompt will, well prompt you. You can link up at any point in time during the week and next week I’ll give you another one. I too will still participate but no more bland and simple prompts. I use things that aren’t as simplistic anyways to inspire me, so why not share them.

So this week I am going to post a quote. Write freely from it, about it or anything else that comes to you after you read it. What helps me most is when I try to find a quiet place for about five minutes and turn the quote over and over in my head or the prompt (if you will) until something hits the right spot that makes me have something to say. So here we go:

The challenge for the day is: day 02 – your least favorite song

Which is kind of hard because there are a lot of songs I absolutely DETEST. Going to have to stave off the teens and tweens who will hate me after this.

Sorry. It’s not just this song. It’s him in general.

My excuse is fairly easy and while my original intent was to say sorry, it’s spring, it’s just so beautiful out I can’t work; I instead had something much better hit me. Thanks to a reminder from a fabulous blogger, blue bonnets in Texas, I decided I can’t work because, well — It’s spring in TEXAS and I’m going to see the blue bonnets.

So anyway I the prompt was about waxing nostalgia and bringing it back old school about high school years. You know most people really don’t carry around the best years of their lives in the form of “High School”. I’m pretty sure it’s a known cliche that high school sucked. Honestly enough though I was one of those kind of people (yeah you are thinking it with leg kick, hip pushed out, eye brow up and looking at me out of the corner of your eye) that enjoyed my high school years. Mind you I went to high school for my freshman and sophomore year but my junior and senior year was done in 5-6 months time and I finished in December. Yes, I graduated early and not because I was a super awesome genius, nope. Because at the time I wanted to better portray the “I hate high school and teenage(dom)” rebellion personality by attending an alternative school that helped speed the process of graduating. Reality is I wanted more time to party, sleep in and chase the hot guys of my little town. All in which I successfully accomplished and got one of the hot guys to fall in love with me and marry me years later. Shout out to the husband!

The town I grew up in, was small. Shady even. Lots of boozing and drugging going on in the shadows. I wonder if parents realized it or not. Heck I wonder if the police realized it or not. Most weekends were spent meeting up in the old Safeway parking lot, picking the spot in the woods and traveling in a convoy to said spot. We would light a fire, back up the trucks, sit on the tail gates and have a rockin’ good time. Somehow we always managed to socialize with our friends, at any point in time without having to use cell phones and make “play dates”.  Spirit week in high school was always so memorable. Dressing up for the theme of the day and all. Looking forward to Friday Night Football games and parties. But the best part of the week was the bonfire. The students would, err, ditch class, to gather wood so that the school would have the giant bonfire minus alcohol, it was much like a party. I loved the ability to ditch without getting in trouble from the parental units, sporting my tank top, do rag and best running shoes to hop in a truck with my best friend and guys to travel to the woods. Once in said woods we would show off our girly strength by helping the boys load the truck full of firewood.

There were ups and downs to growing up in that town. Small towns always have the pit falls of annoyance with teenagers and every teenager wants to blow the Popsicle stand and see what else is out there in this big, big world. We were invincible weren’t we? But looking back, I wouldn’t change where I came from. Not for a second. Going home to Show Low is going home. It’s roots. It’s memories of some bad, but some great times. Just because, this song reminds me way too much of those times…..

To add to the finality of this list because searching them all out and naming them all could take forever – most “horror” or “scary” films that have been made in the past 10 years or so. Sorry but the fact that I haven’t seen a really scary, pee my pants film is disturbing. I always know the plot line, I always know when the bad guy is going to jump out and the girl always runs up stars instead of outside. Chalk it up to Scream for ruining my idea of scary movies.

I actually do a hundred different things right before I got to bed, but here are the six things I do:

Get a large glass of water with ice

Wash face and brush teeth

Turn on laptop to read book – begin to read

Get up double check doors etc to make sure spooky sounds outdoors are someone trying to get in and if so everything is locked
