When I was kid growing up we really didn’t have a lot of fancy cartoons. We had the usual Disney classic’s, Scooby Doo and I think Barney was pretty new when I was little. Plus TV was barely starting to air non-stop. I vividly remember the flag waving and the dog barking, “Sit boo boo sit. Ruff. Good dog”. Our main source for cartoons and children television was PBS, hello Sesame Street, Mr.Rogers Neighborhood? These days my kids have a variety of choices but I can’t help but still think that PBS makes great programming for children. Like Wordgirl.

My kids and I got the chance to review the new Wordgirl DVD – Wordgirl: Tricks & Treats.

I was a little worried that Dayton was not going to be happy seeing a girl superhero. I realize that she is a different sort of superhero but in a 6 year old boys mind, a superhero is superhero regardless of their specialty. Luckily he was pretty excited about it and I had to break up a couple fights over who was going to watch it first. Thankfully Brodie was nice enough to put it on in her room and they all watched it together. And honestly Brodie being 9, enjoys far more than the others do! That’s a huge plus! Education + Entertainment = High Value in my book! So go Wordgirl and PBS!

We are into September now ladies and gents. With a new month and being part of the Constructive Mom Bloggers, means new things to share with you! Christmas is only three months away which also means you need to shopping around for ideas. Right?! Hopefully Constructive Playthings and I can bring you some great ideas AND a chance to win something amazing for the holidays!

This month my family and I got the chance to review the Constructive Playthings Classic Wood Kitchen Set.

About the Classic Wood Kitchen Set:

Like a favorite recipe from Grandma, this kitchen is a keeper! At the Stove/Sink unit, little chefs will love “cooking up” make-believe meals on the top burners using the turning knobs, swivel faucet, see-thru oven door and removable sink pan. The roomy freezer-top refrigerator is great for food storage. The sets charming, wood design offers safe rounded corners, a wipe-clean white finish, doors with magnetic closures and lots of storage space. Assembly required. Stove/Sink Combo size 23½”W. x 12″D. x 35½”H. Countertop 24″H. Refrigerator size 16¼”W. x 12″D. x 35½”H. Sorry, no gift wrap or Express Delivery. (Stainless cookware sold separately) Ages 3 yrs. +.

The Greer’s Thoughts:

As with most things that show up in boxes at my door my kids were thrilled. Of course I did not tell them what it was as I wanted to surprise them. Plus again, this was something I was putting together without the aide of Brent, so I wasn’t exactly sure when I was going to get around doing the construction of it. Of course when they found out it was a play kitchen the nagging of “put together mom” didn’t end. Thus the construction began.

Here are all the pieces prior to putting it together. Now if you ready to do your Holiday Shopping and worried about this phase on Christmas Eve, let me begin with telling you exactly how easy it was. I was worried that I would need Brent to help me get the play kitchen together, but alas – no need! The instructions are SO EASY to read and every single piece is labeled.(Including screws etc)

I put the kitchen together with ease and my kids were definitely ready for play. We used to have an old ragged kitchen in Tristan’s room, so I was very excited to get the old out and NEW in! I love the way that it is made and one of the perks for me is that the top of these act like shelves for me to store the kids’ knick knacks on! Score! This play kitchen is on the top of my list for great gifts for the Holidays!

Now for the even greater news, remember that if you wish to purchase this Classic Wood Kitchen or any other Constructive Playthings products, save 15% Off Exclusively with Me!

I don’t let my kids get on the computer much but when I do there are very few sites I let them go to. I do not mind at all if they get on the computer and go online to sites that are educational. I am just that way.

Well enter JumpStart.

About JumpStart 3D Virtual World:

JumpStart is an award-winning adventure-based 3D virtual world that is super-personalized, wildly imaginative and really fun, but don’t let that fool you – it also teaches math, reading, and critical thinking skills so kids get a real jump start in life.

As I was logging in with the kids to JumpStart I had to take note of something:

You can add up to 6 kids per account! So don’t fret let everyone have a chance on JumpStart!!!!

I really love JumpStart and love letting the kids play it. I have played it a couple times too. All three kids have been able to play it and while it takes a bit of time to load (may have to do with the fact that my computer is 2 almost 3 years old) I only had to help the little ones with small things. It’s one of those things that my kids are learning but they don’t realize it because they are having fun too! You all know how I am about my kids’ education – so this is a top notch game AND learning tool for them! A+ to JumpStart! Now there are some areas that was brought to my attention for the kids to check out.

There are many places to explore once you launch the game, some of which you may already be familiar with. The first is an area called StoryLand, aimed at 3-5 year olds. Children can also explore AdventureLand and MarineLand, designed for kids in kindergarten to second grade. Inaddition, children in 3rd to 5th grade may be interested in checking out FutureLand, geared toward older children. We also just launched our most popular area, the Enchanted Sanctuary, where kids can hatch and raise their own dragons!

I was also told to check out the downloads that are part of the membership, but I won’t lie – as soon as my kids found out that they can raise and hatch their own dragons I was done for! I also loved that I can keep up with all of it with the JumpStart Blog!

And now guess what? You can now enter to win a 3 month membership to JumpStart for your kids!

WHAT WE THOUGHT:

The directions are so simple to read – so it was easy to make. All you need is ice, salt and water. Simple we always have those things laying around. The container that holds the icee though is small. I would say about a 1/2 cup. So if you are making them for three kids, they need to be patient and understand they aren’t getting a full cup of slushy. The container also is metal (the part the icee is in) so do not use a metal spoon to get the contents out. It’ll scratch it and I’m not sure what the consequences of that would be! If you don’t shake the mixer long enough also – it can be quite an ooey gooey mess. So please read directions carefully. As far as flavor – it was right on the dot of the taste of Icee’s! This is a fun gift though and the kids love it! I’m pretty sure we will be having Icee’s for dessert every night now!
