Arizona Budget #FAIL

This morning I got up, was helping the kids get ready for school and sat down with my trusty cup of coffee and turned on the news. And surprise surprise what was it about — Statewide Teacher Layoffs RESUME. Oh yes, more layoffs for you got it…our children educators. I wrote a little bit about my frustration with this last year.  But as it goes, a year has now passed and we haven’t seen anything towards improving education in this state. Oddly I keep wondering why we are living here. My children are not only my future but yours and they aren’t getting a chance at it. They are watching their future dwindle away by the failing of our Arizona government.

Just take a second to look at the MORE important things than a child’s education:

This is the Loop 202. Isn’t that cement oh so pretty. It has nice detail to it that you can’t see in the picture. And since my children won’t be getting a good education in this state they can at least look forward to living under this overpass. Like I said it’s oh so pretty.

Look how beautiful the sides of the roads are on the Loop 101. I mean apparently the graffiti on that wall is a problem but the rocks, bushes, shrubs and flowers are so intimately laid out and looking amazing. Since my kids still won’t have an education, at least they can pretend this is their yard while they are living under an overpass.

And hey these cameras are priceless. People see them and of course they don’t speed at all. EVER. Because these beautiful and expensive cameras are keeping our kids on the street and our teachers out of jobs!

Then we have this douche err Sheriff. Sheriff Joe Arpaio. And thank  you snowbirds, thank you, for coming to MY state and voting him in every year because you think he’s oh so fabulous. By doing so you are for sure keeping his job secure because while we are paying for his bull, our children are losing out. Soon they will join the ranks of these guys. Fabulous. At least they get three square meals a day right????

Today, today I am going to tell my kids they don’t need to do their homework any longer. I am going to teach them to cook, clean (and I’m talking mopping, scrubbing toilets and the such), mow yards, babysit and possibly hustle. Today I will let my children know that Arizona doesn’t value them as the future or care about their education so no need to worry about it any longer. Today I will let my kids know that there are FAR MORE IMPORTANT things than an education. Like drugs, living on the streets and jail. Today I will inform my kids that a long time ago, people use to care about children and their future. That an education got you somewhere. That striving for success began in Kindergarten. That reaching for the stars still meant something when I was in high school.

Today I will tell my kids that money IS everything and education is nothing.

And today – I will blame Arizona’s government for it.

Great job guys. Great job. Keep up the hard work.

Silly girl…the roads are paid for by the lottery. ;) Now if more gamblers were out gambling…we could afford our teachers. Blame all the conservatives for the deficit issues. They would rather enforce needless and pointless immigration issues (which is a Federal thing…not state) along with other useless spending which thus causes the deficit.

WOW. Those sure are some nice overpasses.

You know when I lived in Illinois, about half the city had their children attending private schools. When the city tired to increase property taxes for the public schools they voted it down. Because their children already had top notch education. Who cares about the kids that have to go to public schools. The resolution was to have the school days cut to 6 hrs. For heavens sake the high school was dismissed at 1:15 every day. They also had to reduce the number of credits required to graduate. And PE and music was removed from K-6 grades.

Shows how much education is equal to all.

Totally! You know I get the education debate as far as higher learning. I do. BUT c’mon they are kids. I am so close to the point of home schooling except I’m pretty sure I would go nuts.

I agree with you 100%. Sadly I have no choice but to say because of another HUGE fail. That is the housing market here! I cant even refinance into a lower interest rate because I am AT LEAST 40,000 in the red AND falling.

I can even give my house away, and every day it gets worse when FINANCIAL EXPERTS are TELLING people to walk away that they are too upside down. Umm yeah that helps us that have morals and a conscience doesnt it? I would love to move to a state that values our Children and their education. I would love for my husband to take a transfer and bail but I am stuck and expect to still be here oh for another 15 years at least. By then the damage will have been done.

We were responsible we bought what we could afford and had no problems getting our home, but being responsible and showing we can make high payments month after month isnt enough. Hell I might even look into private school if I could refi and take a couple hundred off my payment every month. That would sure make me feel a bit better rather then sick to my stomach at people buying a hell of a lot more home for a TON less then I paid for my home that isnt even 1200SF.

For crying out loud if the state and its officials dont pull their heads from their butts we will never overcome!

*sigh* Undervaluing educators is a problem everywhere. That’s one of the reasons I never went back to teaching after having my kids.

It sucks. I can bitch and moan about teachers – but regardless they are NEEDED. They shape my childrens future and this is soooo important to me. What they do when they hit 18 is up to them, but until then I am their advocate. How can I be an advocate when the system is working against me? It’s ridiculous. I have a feeling improvements are not in the near or very distant future. Sigh. :(
